All the components of fine Zinfandel are in top form here, from the opening fat, dark berry aromas to the deep, sweet fruit on the smoothly textured palate and the lovely fruit-acid balance. Closes handsomely, with full even tannins and some white pepper on the long back end. Drinks well now and has the structure to last and improve for a few years as well.

Sugary-earth and anise aromas accent deep blackberry on the nose; in the mouth, this Russian River Valley Zin has bright raspberry and blueberry flavors, kept in check beautifully with oak and dried spice notes. Luscious in the mouth, and sexy overall, it finishes long with loads of blackberry and a little caramel at the very end. Could be even better after a year or two in the cellar.

Fresh and plush, with rich, round plum, black cherry, toast, tar, coffee, herb and spice flavors that sail nicely over firm, ripe tannins. Fun and easy to appreciate, the wine finishes with moderate length.

A great Zin, rich and opulent. Floods the mouth with briary blackberry, blueberry, cherry, chocolate and pepper flavors that just take over the palate. Yet the wine is dry and balanced, with firm, ripe tannins. One of the best Zins of the year.

Pleasantly fruity, but with tannins that are not as supple and elegant as the Old Vine version of this wine. Look for toasty oak, plum, black cherry and spice, with a finish that’s moderate in length.

Lots to like in this intense, dry red wine. Smells complex and inviting, with bacon fat, leather, chocolate, blackberry and smoke aromas, and the initial mouthfeel is lush and textured. Turns a bit thin in the middle, but maintains elegance and balance.

It is supple and goes down easily, but you’ll want to drink the Limerick Lane slowly enough to appreciate its complexity. Vanilla-chocolate aromas, plus earthy, meaty (one reviewer called it "barbecue") notes beef up a sour red-fruit bouquet. Creamy chocolate pops up again on the palate, where it melds with other dark toast, mocha, black-cherry and dried spice flavors. Finishes long, with sweet vanilla and licorice notes.

While this Syrah may not quite reach the heights of the old-vine Zinfandel from this vineyard, the vines are several decades younger. Even now, the results are impressive: bold raspberry fruit is couched in ultraripe tannins and framed by hints of vanilla. It even picks up some spice and game notes on the finish.
