This recommendation is more a reader reminder than breaking news, because the Bin 65 has been Australia’s hallmark value-priced white since 1985. But it is still a reliable, inexpensive choice as well as Australia’s most-exported white wine. Bouncy yellow fruit on the palate is accented by spicy, gingery notes that seem a little grown-up for a wine of this price. Fat, ripe nectarines and peaches, plus some nutmeg and cream, waft from the nose. The 2002 Bin 45 Cab (85 points, $8) is also a great buy.

Early vintages of this were great values, and the 2006 version is a solid effort as well, offering up aromas of smoky, grilled fruit and toasted marshmallow. It’s medium-bodied, with spicy, orangey flavors that fall away quickly on the finish. Drink now.

This perennial good value shows a lot of oak this vintage. Toast, vanilla and butterscotch aromas preface buttery yellow fruit on the palate. Finishes with a hearty dose of toast and nut.

Although it's labeled Pinot Grigio, this is thousands of miles away from northeastern Italy in style. It's broad in the mouth, marked by pear, melon and spice notes, without the citrusy balance of Italian versions, yet it all works together, with the spice--crushed pepper and ground cinnamon--providing a sense of focus. Lacks a bit of depth, but at this price, who's complaining?

Soft in the mouth and pretty straightforward, but still a bargain. This Shiraz-Cab shows black pepper aromas, with purple plum and oak flavors. Its slightly sour, green edge is a minor detraction.

Deep gold in color, with nut, peach and overt floral aromas. Bright and tropical on the palate, with a soft, almost oily feel; shows its alcohol on the finish. Imported by Foster’s Wine Estates Americas.

Vibrant copper-yellow in color. There’s not a lot of flavor on the palate—just some olive oil or butter, and a similar feel. Dries up on the finish, where it also shows some alcohol. Imported by Southcorp Wines.

Excellent. Has deep, pretty aromas of clay, eraser and ripe red plum. Its plum-fruit core has a crisp minty edge, and the package is all couched in a rich, claylike texture. The wine is well structured and sturdy, its red fruit tightening and retreating through the finish. Needs time; drink 2006+.

Chalk dust, bubblegum powder and juicy, fleshy berry fruit is a lovely aromatic combination, and the mix expresses itself just as nicely on the palate. The feel is velvety, and the oak noticeable, but still works well in terms of the the big picture. Very nice, and shows the best of what Lindemans can do.

Aromas are dark and stewy right out of the bottle, but unfold to reveal fresh herb and eucalyptus with air. Red fruit on the palate wears dusty, sweet-and-sour tannins, and a hint of the fresh mintiness. Not a huge, dense wine, but a robust one with chewy tannins.
