Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A complex and delicious Bordeaux blend, with a bouquet of blackberries, herbs, tobacco and prunes. The nose promises a lot and the palate delivers full, sweet fruit flavors and a rich texture. The finish is long and toasty, with deep fruit and vanilla flavors and solid tannins that indicate good ageability. Best from 2002–2009.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This medium-weight Sauvignon Blanc opens with citrus and mild vanilla aromas. Rich on the palate, it’s 100% barrel fermented and contains 5% Chardonnay, but does not undergo malolactic fermentation. Its appealing blend of melon, grapefruit and fig flavors finishes with good length and more of the citrus/vanilla elements from the nose. Drink now.

The apple, earth and mild tropical fruit aromas, good mouthfeel and apple-pear and caramel flavors are all right on target. Lockwood’s largest volume bottling, this hits all the right notes. Toasty, spicy oak mingles with apple, spice and butterscotch on the close. Drink now.

Sweet and sexy, this notable Merlot value offers berry, earth, herb and cocoa elements knit into a smooth, appealing package. There’s a touch of Bordeaux Right Bank complexity in the bouquet, then decidedly New World ripe black cherries and toasty oak on the palate. Finishes spicy-sweet, with a caramel note from the oak. Drink now–2003.

A beautiful Sauvignon Blanc, at a great price. Dry and mouthwateringly crisp, it shows flavors of lemons, limes, lemongrass, pears, spices and vanilla. Finishes utterly clean and stimulating. A great value.

An interesting Syrah, and complex. The cherries and cocoa are married to pepper and sweet tobacco in this dry, rich wine. Nice with grilled lamb chops and scalloped potatoes.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Apple and tropical fruit aromas accented by mint, grass and herbal notes open to an equally bright palate of pineapple, mango and citrus flavors. In this classy, medium-bodied Chardonnay, these lively elements meet buttery vanilla notes in the mouth and flow into a long caramel finish with brisk, pepper-oak accents.

Lockwood hitches a ride on the Argentine Malbec express, with mixed results. The wine is dark and acidic and properly bone dry, with earthy, dark berry, coffee, leather and bitter chocolate flavors. But there’s a disagreeable green sharpness.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Classic coastal Sauvignon Blanc, ripe and forward in lemon and lime, honeydew, alfalfa, peppery cinnamon and vanilla flavors, with a great deal of acidity, although the finish is a little sweet. There’s a lot going on here.

Plum and berry-cherry flavors mingle with herbal, coffee and cola notes in this very dry red wine. The firm tannins will easily stand up to barbecue and similar fare.
