There’s something almost Zinny about this wine, with its brambly, briary notes of wild blueberries and blackberries and sun-warmed summer bark and dust. It possesses fabulous intensity, but those mountain tannins are palate-numbing, and they shut down the finish. Demands time beyond 2010.

Big powerful nose, lots of wonderful Cabernet aromas here, spicy notes mix with rich cassis, licorice, and tar, layered and rich, peppery, hints of eucalyptus and mint; full in the mouth but with nicely balanced acidity; plenty of ripe fruit, but contained and not over-extracted as some tend to be; still a baby though, as there is a shell of dry tannins encompassing the wine; big-boned structure; pepper, mint, herbs; finish is polished and laced with ripe cassis, cherry, black plum flavors; the tannins get pretty heavy-handed at the finish, and the question will be, how will the wine mature in the next several years, and will the fruit survive the tannic grip. (18.5/20)
