Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Very clean and bright, a wine that shows a fine pedigree. It’s dry and ultracrisp in acidity, which gives a bracing feeling to the slightly sweet lemongrass, pineapple and vanilla flavors.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
An unmitigated success for a debut wine, which isn’t a surprise considering that Cathy Corison is winemaker. Lots of rich, warm fruit, with notes of pepper, licorice, cassis and eucalyptus. Plummy and weighty, but really smooth, almost silky. Nothing aggressive or the least bit displeasing about this A-grade Napa beauty.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A beautiful and compelling Sauvignon Blanc that gives the acidity and citrusy brightness you want in the variety, but contains extra layers of complexity. Offers waves of fresh green grass, Meyer lemon, sweet lime and mineral flavors that don’t appear to have any oak. Brilliant with crab cakes, toasted sourdough bread with goat cheese, or on its own as a cocktail sipper.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
An extraordinary Cabernet that stands out even in this great vintage, and among its Rutherford peers. Quite dry and tannic in youth, it shows an astringency that strongly suggests the cellar. Underneath are powerhouse flavors of blackberries, black and red cherries, spices, tea and cedar. Really defines balance and elegance in a Napa Cabernet. Decant if you drink it now, but it should develop for years to come.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Made by Cathy Corison, this wine is now in its second vintage, where it shows black-cherry fruit touched up by leather and spice. A big wine needing some time to come together; it is stylish for sure, with a vivid, exciting finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A very fine wine that showcases Napa’s rich, ripe tannins and perfectly ripened cassis fruit flavors. Oak, of course, brings vanilla, smoke and additional sweetness. Not for the long haul, so best now for a few years.

Long Meadow Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon - 2001

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
There’s no oak on this wine, which lets the fruit star. It does a bravura performance, with turns of pineapples, limes, gooseberries and tart mandarin oranges that finish in a swirl of spices. Acidity adds a brilliant zestiness, and even though the alcohol is only 12.9% by volume, the wine is thoroughly dry.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is an example of a lighter, drier style of Cabernet that maintains great elegance and charm. It’s very dry, showing blackberry, black currant, herb and cedar flavors wrapped into firm tannins, and brightened with crispness. Best now–2011.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Tasted in June, 2009, this Cab was not showing well. It’s soft and dense and extracted, with an almost syrupy feeling framing blackberry, black currant, herb and cedar flavors, although it is totally dry. Could surprise, but seems to lack structure for aging.

Dark, heady and tannic—that pretty much describes this latest release from winemaker Cathy Corison. It’s also very French-oaky, packed with smoke and vanilla. In other words, a young wine meant for aging. Seems to have the balance and richness to improve through 2009.
