This wine starts off with some nice aromas of plum and spice cake, then adds nuances of leather and licorice on the palate. It’s also mouthfilling and firmly structured, ending on a dry, astringent note. Drink it young with a rare steak to help balance the tannins.

Stewed dark fruit with leather and spice accents show on the nose of this angular, narrow wine. Very dry on the tongue, it offers black coffee and smoke flavors and high acidity. A taut finish closes this lean machine.

This ripe, low-acid wine illustrates the nature of the 2003 vintage. Brandied cherries, cinnamon and clove come together in a flavor package reminiscent of fruit cake or spice cake.
