A good-buy, large-market wine and a great indicator of the potential of the ’98 white Burgundies. Well-defined yet harmonious apple, citrus, and nutty components throughout. Quite precise and not at all chunky and clumsy; well balanced, with clean fruit persisting to the end. Will handle foods like fish and chicken perfectly.

An intense, powerful wine, which speaks of the importance of the Corton Charlemagne vineyard and also justifies it. It is smooth and creamy, concentrated white fruits to go with an solid structure that promises great aging.

This is very much a wine of the vintage, piling huge, ripe sweet fruit on top of the dry tannins of Nuits-St.-Georges. Chocolate and wood flavors merge with the red berry fruit flavors in a wine that will be slow to develop. Imported by Kobrand.

A powerful, brooding wine, with huge, red fruit flavors. From one of Gevrey’s most famed premier cru vineyards, high on the slope above the village, this is going to develop into a stunning wine, with the complexity and richness that is a signature of Jadot’s wine. Imported by Kobrand.

Dry, almost austere at this stage, this wine is only just beginning to show its dense tannins and power. Under that firm, solid exterior, the rich black perfumed fruits are just waiting to burst out when it has had a few years in bottle. In 20 years, this will mature to greatness.

Dark red fruits, tar and licorice mark the nose. The full red-fruit flavors are solid and the good acidity, typical of Gamay-based wines, lets them show well. A solid and balanced everyday drinker, it closes with dry, dusty tannins and proves that more than cru Beaujolais can have meat on their bones.

Firm, tannic, this is a big wine dominated by its firm structure, although there are some good, ripe black fruits there as well. The aftertaste is rather hard.

In keeping with its place on the boundary of Morey Saint-Denis and Chambolle-Musigny, this Bonnes-Mares marries the refinement of great Chambolle with the more tough, powered character of Morey. It’s smoky, powerful and solid with an explosion of fruits in the mouth, but leaving mouth-watering freshness to finish.
