This is recognizably Pinot-esque with its silky mouthfeel and flavors of cherries and cola, but beyond that, all similarities stop. It’s slightly sweet and too soft.

The ’04 was so much better, maybe because of vintage or sourcing differences. This is sharp in green, minty tastes, and the cherry and cola flavors finish simple and thin. Earns an extra point for a rich spiciness.

The winemaker left in a little residual sugar, which gives this pleasant wine a pineapple jam, green apple pie, vanilla sorbet and honeysuckle taste. It’s balanced with crisp acidity. From the Los Alamos region, which should have its own appellation status.

I’m not sure why they held this Cab back a full four years, but it’s smooth and rich and drinkable now. With chocolate-infused cherry-cassis flavors, the wine is soft and gentle, with a finish of licorice and cinnamon spice.

A bit hot and rugged, this Merlot has flavors of baked cherries, coffee, plums and spicy cola. It’s dry on the finish. Earns extra points for balance and interest value.
