This white has a light, delicate nose of citrus and apricot. On the palate it’s smooth and balanced with lush apricot and spice flavors. A touch of acidity gives the wine lift. A lingering finish adds to its poise. Pair with a creamy cheese or sip alone.

Notes of unwelcome botrytis mar an otherwise fresh and lively citric nose. Braised fennel notes infuse the lightweight palate, which just manages to carry the high level of sweetness. A tangy apple note adds intrigue to the finish. Try with mu shu shrimp.

The nose on this red is exotic—allspice, fruitcake, pepper—and on the palate, flavors of cherry and raspberry are likeable, if a little thin. Medium- bodied tannins and a bright finish give the wine extra points. Pair with a red sauce pasta dish or meat for added enjoyment.

Aromatic with notes of white peach, florals and just a whiff of petrol, this is fairly dry in style but softened by a gentle grapefruit and limeade sweetness. Finish clean with a refreshing stone and slate note.

Offers a simple but enjoyable bouquet of rising bread dough, followed by flavors of pear and apple. The texture combines a hint of creaminess with crisp acidity on the fairly dry finish.

Slightly floral on the nose, with some pear and nectarine as well, this light-bodied wine blends sweet stone-fruit flavors with tart green apples on the palate, giving it a degree of balance.

Broody and beautiful, the nose on this wine offers plum, clove and cedar spice. Its juicy, mouthfilling flavors of blackberry, leather and spice are backed by a good tannic structure and overall, the wine is a winner.

The Lucas 2007 Limited Reserve Syrah shows the potential the Syrah grape has in upstate New York. Dense raspberry and strawberry fruit vie with aromas of barbecued meat on the nose while a thick layer of vanilla cushions the fine tannins and smokey notes in the mouth. The juicy finish throws up an enticing licorice note. Nicely done. Drink now to 2011.

This refreshing Chardonnay entices with aromas of tropical fruit, citrus and fresh white flowers. The crisp style smacks of grapefruit and lemon, but it’s well rounded. Food-friendly, the wine will pair well with seafood, chicken and spicy cuisine.

Lucas Vineyards Chardonnay - 2008

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a creative if not entirely successful wine; its intense, lavish aromas are followed by a surprisingly rustic wave of fruit that has a spin of austerity to it. One-dimensional and rough around the edges.
