This little Shiraz has a good foundation to it. The nose is round and warm, with simple fruit and earth aromas. The palate is a touch tannic and rubbery, but it’s holding solid raspberry and red plum flavors. Somewhat on the sheer side, with enough character that it deserves a look.

Basic melon and pear aromas precede a husky apple-driven palate that shows flavors of pineapple, yellow apple and spice flavors. Chunky on the finish after the initial fruit fades. Decent.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A mixture of sugar beet and red cabbage is intertwined with plum and berry, creating a sweet, awkward nose. Blackberry and candy flavors, a leathery finish, and a firm mouthfeel are the remaining defining characteristics.

Plenty of old-vines texture here - rich and juicy. Lots of sweet fruit on the nose, which is inviting, but the palate and complexity are rather pedestrian. A textbook Cabernet that reads like, well, a textbook- accurate but not thrilling. Tight and solid, but not jazzy.

Very much a classic, high-quality Chilean Cabernet. The nose features traditional aromas of mint, tobacco, rubber band and herbs, but also deep black fruits. The acidity is right up to the max level, so the fruit flavors are pushed toward the red end of the spectrum, while accents of vanilla and dill are welcome. Some cola hints and heat work the finish, as do notes of black olive and cedar. One of Luis Felipe Edwards’ best wines in years.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A little sharp and piercing at first, but with airing you get typical Chilean Merlot aromas of cherry, plum and leafy herbalness. Medium bodied, with good drive and reasonable balance and depth. Tastes good for a $10 wine, with flavors of red fruits, olive and herbs. Finishes dry and spicy.

Menthol and blackberry aromas are followed by a palate of soft and straightforward blackberry, vanilla and anise flavors. It’s an uncomplicated, pleasant package, nicely balanced and easy to enjoy now.

Pretty aromas of cedar, milk chocolate and mint are the highlights of this lightweight quaffer that blends in flavors of black cherry and cocoa on the finish.

Big and chunky, with a full-fruit bouquet that seems reticent to offer anything more specific than berries. Bright acidity drives the fruitiness forward; the wispy finish features licorice and cherry.

Overtly fresh and fruity, this young-vines wine costs a pittance yet offers some terrific black-cherry and cassis flavors upfront before slipping back a little. No oak at all to muck up the juicy body. It’s an indicator of two things: the quality of the ’99 vintage and the progress this relatively new winery is making.
