Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Here’s a fresh and lively super Tuscan blend that would make a fantastic companion to roasted lasagna with ground beef and hearty tomato sauce. The wine is soft, velvety and layered with mature aromas of red berry, spice, leather and tobacco.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The Canadian owners of Máté lead a blessed life between painting, writing and grape-growing. The product of their Tuscan dream is a bold and modern wine that is shaped by sophisticated oak use and rich extraction. Deep aromas of vanilla, spice and blackberry ride over smooth tannins.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Here’s a thick, powerful and sweet-smelling expression of Merlot from Montalcino with ripe aromas of cherry, blackberry and Indian spice. The density is thick and opulent and the succulent tannins give the wine even more heft and dimension in the mouth.

Aromas of smoky cigar, toasted note and black cherry open the bouquet of this bright expression from Montalcino. The wine shows good density and a tonic, crisp feel on the close.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Owned by an expat artist/writer couple, Máté shows a great evolution of style and grace over the past years. This 2006 Brunello straddles modernity and tradition with a playful juxtaposition of wild berry and raspberry aromas against vanilla, clove and cinnamon spice.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Chocolate, cherry, spice and wood shavings are the leading aromas emitted from this hearty Cabernet Sauvignon. Despite its power, it is a beautiful wine with lasting herbal fragrances splashed over tight, firm tannins. This is a big, brawny wine that could overpower many foods, so pair it with grilled beef or roasts.

A lovely Cab from Montalcino, with bright berry aromas of blackberry and wild cherry backed by exotic spice, clove, sweet cinnamon and a touch of espresso bean. The wine is firm but smooth on the finish with loads of fruit intensity at the very end.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This Montalcino-based Merlot has a lot going on but is just a tad too raw and ripe to break into the 90-points range. On the nose, it offers a mélange of strawberry, blueberry, almond, balsam notes and mint. The tannins are silky and smooth.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This 100% Syrah is aged 24 months in barrique and consequently opens with a solid wall of new wood that will require at least five years to integrate, but soft cherry nuances and delicate mineral shadings promise good things to those who wait.
