Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dark in color and quite oaky, with lots of smoke and vanilla aromas riding on top of blackcurrants. The blackberry flavors promise richness, then drop off in the middle and turn herbal. Tannins and alcohol show up on the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Rich, powerful and dense, this is classic California “Pet,” with its dark color and massively compacted plum, roasted coffeebean, chocolate and grilled-meat flavors. It’s tannic, but soft enough to drink tonight.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Size matters in this massively structured, hugely fruity wine, with oak to match. The fruits are tropical, with the deeply spicy, intense flavors of mango, guava, and pineapple. Lees complexes but doesn't overwhelm, while the well-charred oak frames it all in toast, vanilla and sweet tannins. It demands big, fancy foods.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Opens with a solid Cabernet nose of black currants. The tannins here are fine and dispersed, the acidity is a little low in the current fashion, yielding a plush mouthfeel. Finishes long and spicy, but maybe a touch superficially pretty.

Drink this robust wine with barbecued pork ribs and don’t be too fussy. It’s dry and tannic enough to slice through grease.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Drinks almost sweet in cassis and sugared espresso flavors, and seems to have some residual sugar despite 15.2 percent alcohol. Fans of this genre will love it.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A proprietary blend that tends to a sweet caramel-cinnamon and baked-apple aromatic and flavor profile. Cola, prune and herb elements define the flavor palate, and the feel is very smooth, even lithe. Sweet black fruits, espresso and caramel flavors play on the long finish. Unusual and appealing, but just a bit shy of the stuffing sought here.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Full-bodied and very dry, with plummy, coffee and bitter chocolate flavors. There is a scour of tannins and acidity that cuts across the rich fruit and shortens it through the finish. Try cellaring it for a few years.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dark and tasty, this solid Pinot has an appealing earthiness. Black cherry fruit, cedar and leather accents ride a mid-weight, slightly chalky feel. A pepper-licorice finish closes it nicely. Drink now-2006.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Forward aromas of ripe cherries and deep vanillin oak meld nicely. Black plum, sweet cherry and coffee flavors, with cedar accents. The very full, supple mouthfeel is captivating. Shows fine length, spicy dry tannins and the stuffing to last. Hold four or more years, as it will keep for ages.
