Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Powerful nose, loaded with ripe fruit but also with strong phenol aromas that are quite aggressive, these fade with more time in the glass, but do not disappear entirely, there are sweet, rich fruit aromas as well with honeyed nuances and a lot of minerality; rich and almost thick with a ripe texture and sweet fruit, but at the same time the wine exhibits a tightness and almost a green character that reduces its appeal; more time in the glass seemed to help; this wine may not be ready for drinking. (16/20) A single bottle opened at a different time was much riper and richer right from the start with a beautifully balanced lemon and spice flavor and a well balanced fresh texture. (17.5) Jeroboams of the same wine proved to be the best yet, served at the D-Day dinner at the French Consulate, the wine was balanced and intense with minerally, honeyed, sweet overtones that wrapped the palate in both power and finesse.
