An easy-drinking Chard from Sutter Home, the folks who helped invent the fighting varietal. Pretty citrus and green-apple aromas. Delicate citrus and peach flavors, with a dollop of oak. A tad sweet in the finish, but it’s crisp and lively.

This is a seductive pleasure-bomb, with a ripe core of tropical, citrus and banana fruit flavors wrapped in a toasty-oak and butterscotch cocoon. Lush and creamy, it hits all the right notes; as it pushes the ripeness and vanilla envelopes to the max, it does so with great style and balance. The long, toasty, crème brûlée finish has great appeal. Top Value.

Has some decent black-currant and blackberry aromas and flavors, but also some herbaceous green notes. Texture is soft and supple.

Full aromas of apple, herb and smoke. Ripe apple fruit, lots of toasty oak, and earthy accents. Full mouthfeel and a lengthy, spicy finish. Elegant, not at all sweet. A very classy, satisfying Chardonnay.

Made in the full-blown, barrel-fermented and -aged style, this wine shows off the cooper’s art in its bold toasty-caramelly-vanilla aromas and flavors. Some peach fruit manages to sneak through the wooden stockade, providing a hint of balance.

A nicely crafted wine with all the attributes of fine Cabernet: plush black-currant and berry fruit, a dose of vanilla-scented oak, and sage notes. Drinks dry and smooth, with a few tannins to shed. Finishes rough, but pretty good, especially at this giveaway price.

Plummy aromas, black-cherry and oak, and accents of vanilla and cream. It’s tight now, fairly begging for time to unfold. Presently the cherry core borders on tart. With time it should soften.

From the Sutter Home family, a super value. You’ll find sweetly ripe, round berry-cherry fruit flavors in a soft, supple package that’s easy to drink. It’s delicious and has some real class and elegance. Definitely a best buy in Merlot. Best Buy.

Smells a little rough and earthy, with some modest berry and oak notes. The flavors are on the austere side. A country-style wine, most of the grapes come from the Santa Lucia Highlands of the cold, windswept Salinas Valley.
