Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Both the Maipe Malbec and this Cabernet Sauvignon show very good purity of fruit and skillful winemaking. This wine is full of black-fruit aromas, depth and style. The palate pushes ripe plum and berry fruit along with chocolate, and the finish is chewy and correct in terms of tannins and structure.

A bit flat on the nose, with apricot aromas. The palate is square in feel, with round but soft peach and melon flavors. This tastes and smells very much like a warm-climate Chardonnay, so get at it soon because its bite is tame as they come.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Sweet aromas that verge on syrupy set up a sweet and easy palate of black cherry and cassis. This has a nice texture as it shows good body, feel and fruit quality. Maipe means “lord of the winds” in a native language, and while this Malbec won’t transport you anywhere, it’s good for the price.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Youth shows in the mix of rubber, herbs and standard berry aromas. The palate is chunky and features solid but short fruit flavors that are reminiscent of berries and plum. A little hot in the middle, but with solid tannins as well as char and pepper on the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
As Argentinean rosé goes, Maipe’s is a success. The wine is clean and colorful, with cheerful cherry and raspberry aromas that are decidedly not funky, skunky or stale. The palate is snappy, with mild berry fruit flavors and a clean, medium-length finish. Candied and friendly but not forced. Drink now.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Minerally peach aromas keep things lean to start, and it’s somewhat narrow in outlook throughout. The palate has melon, nectarine and papaya fruit, and there’s both citrusy acid and custardy richness to give modest complexity. Like a green-fruit lollipop in liquid form.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Thick and concentrated stuff, with aromas of sweet plums and cough syrup. The body is beefy and round, with full but simple plum and blackberry flavors. With color, size and heft, it has much of what Malbec is known for. Problem is, it needs better tuning and precision to rank higher.
