Despite some dark flavors of chocolate fudge and dates that often connote richness and depth, this wine isn’t particularly rich or deep. The 2003 vintage looks to have been more successful at Bouachon. Drink now.

Very dry, citrusy and long on the finish, this is a bit different from the typical Tavel. Sour cherry and watermelon rind notes provide a hint of pink flavor. Interesting and different; probably better as a white wine stand-in than as a traditional rosé.

Nicely balanced, with no elements overpowering any of the others, just a nice mix of black cherries, chocolate and spice cake in a mouthfilling, yet firmly structured wine. Ends with some silky tannins, suggesting that holding another 2-3 years may smooth it out even more.

Enjoyably full bodied and creamy textured, this slightly chewy Châteauneuf would rate higher if not for its slightly pruny, raisiny fruit.

Maison Bouachon is an old négociant house based in Gigondas. It’s now owned by the Skalli family who is trying to raise the level of the wines. This Côtes-du-Rhône cuvée is a promising effort, boasting plenty of black cherry fruit to go with hints of leather and game. The fruit shows a hint of sur-maturité, yet remains fresh, while the mouthfeel is round yet not unstructured. Drink now–2010, possibly longer.

The $70 price tag is silly, but the wine itself is very good, combining soft tannins with ample cherry fruit and layers of dried spices. It's full and round in the mouth, long, warm and comforting on the finish. Drink now-2015.

A full-bodied, rather soft Gigondas, loaded with scents of dried-fruit compote, a dusting of cinnamon, a curl of citrus zest and a drizzle of chocolate. A bit lacking in structure, but big, flavorful and ultimately satisfying. Drink now.
