Pure strawberry aromas lead in to delicious, ripe, sweet fruits. It shows the highly drinkable nature of the St. Laurent grape, with red cherry fruits and light touch of tannin. It could age over the next 2 years, but drink it now with pleasure.

Unconventional, with some briny notes to the musky nose that also brings with it honey and lychee. Pretty solid across the palate, where tangerine and melon flavors are sweetened by a shot of guava. Not the easiest wine to wrap yourself around, but not without its virtues. Imported by Morandell Imports.

You can tell this is Gerald Malat’s flagship red by the weight of the bottle. And, yes, it is a fine wine. The Cabernet structure and dry tannins are all here, as part of a firm, blackberry fruit-flavored wine, that shows some herbal character as well as wood. Age for 3 years.

An oily, viscous wine the color of polished brass, Malat’s 2002 auslese boasts striking scents of honey, peaches and orange marmalade. The ultraripe peach flavors pick up hints of spice and nuts on the finish. Bears a bit of similarity to a vendanges tardives Riesling from Alsace, and best paired with similar dishes, such as foie gras, or fish or chicken in cream sauce.

The slopes below the Stift Gottweig monastery are the source of this attractively crisp, light wine, its acidity and fresh fruit a pure pleasure to drink. There is a twist of minerality here, just to add extra interest. Screwcap.

Gerald Malat is a seminal figure in winemaking in Krems, the first to match grape variety to soil type in a region previously dominated by small holdings and tiny vineyards. So it’s fitting that this Grüner Veltliner should power through with ripe, peppery fruit and flavors of apples, pears and spice. It needs a year or two to age. Imported by Morandell Imports.

A youthful Riesling, still bursting with energy and vitality but nowhere near ready to drink. It has flavors of white peach, currants and minerality. It is full, but the acidity shows through, giving a deliciously crisp, fresh aftertaste. Imported by Morandell Imports.

Rich in style, this wine comes from three different vineyards. It has white currant and spice and a great lively swathe of tight fruit. With power and concentration, this is a wine with fine potential.
