Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This Andlau vineyard has been planted since Roman times, making it one of the oldest vineyards in Alsace. It’s famed for Rieslings, and this wine shows why. It is full-bodied, but still hows some raciness and ripe acidity. At this stage, this great wine is still very young, but it has the potential to age for up to 20 years. Imported by Wilson Daniels Ltd.

A ripely smooth, lime- and white-pear flavored PB, soft and creamy, with hints of almonds. This is delicious apéritif wine; a pleasure to drink.

Developed aromas of fall leaves and straw gainsay this wine’s youth. We could wish for a bit more fruit here, but the palate shows a silky texture, some nice intensity and an attractive caramel note. Drink up.

True to the house style, fruit is secondary here, hiding behind overt notes of wax and mineral. Palate lacks complexity but has a pleasant lemon tinge. There’s a final acid kick on the hay-honey finish. Drink up.

An intriguing wine, a blend of Riesling and Pinot Gris, showing developed aromas of char and spice. There’s precious little fruit here, though a few apple notes inform the medium-bodied palate. Hay and lanolin flavors on the finish dissipate a bit too quickly.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A 50-50 blend of Pinot Gris and Riesling, this is a large-scale wine with aromas and flavors of nuts, anise and baked apples—maybe even a hint of butterscotch. Yet for all that sweet-sounding stuff, there’s nothing soft about the hard, stony finish. A tough wine to really come to grips with.

Stunningly beautiful. Decadently rich and flamboyant, with its peach, honeysuckle, apricot, wildflower, vanilla and smoke aromas and flavors. Rich and sweet as honey, yet this wine is fully dry and quite crisp with acidity. Exquisite concentration, with the weight and density of a Grand Cru.

An amazing wine that opens with huge aromas of honeysuckle, peach, lime zest, pie crust, creme brulee, vanilla and smoke. Big, rich and persistant in the mouth, with peach and citrus flavors that go on and on, underscored by searing acidity. Built for aging.

Rich, thick and unctuous, a superb wine whose acidity makes it ideal for cellaring, if you wish. In its youth, it drinks tight and steely, with intense, nervy flavors of citrus fruits and roasted hazelnut. The finish is long and honeyed.

Pretty and polished, with very ripe peach, vanilla and smoke flavors that drink rich, almost sweet, although the wine itself is measurably dry. So big and strong in fruity flavor, might almost be New World, except for the massive acidity.
