This cru expression of Sangiovese was born in 1974 and offers beautifully plush and rich aromas of dark chocolate, cherry and opulent vanilla. The wine is very smooth, soft and long-lasting in the mouth. It’s a wonderful and very pleasurable wine.

Burly and chunky, with jammy black-fruit aromas that come across fresh and attractive. The palate veers toward black cherry and blackberry, and the finish is racy and spicy. For an everyday red wine, this one has ample fruit and some subtleties, so it will likely fit the bill if expectations aren’t too high. —M.S.

Deep gold in color, with sunny aromas of peaches and flowers. In the mouth, however, it’s shrill, with blasting acidity and a sour flavor profile. Disappointing because the nose seems promising.

A more serious attempt at serious Champagne-style wine. Aromas of vanilla cream and toast are smooth, and the heavy palate offers lemon-lime and orange. Finishes full, maybe a bit flat. Nice overall.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a fabulous late harvest tour de force blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio and aromatic Traminer that sees some new oak for extra depth and dimension. The trick here is that fruit comes from a high altitude vineyard so you get bright, crisp acidity beyond those syrupy sweet tones of peach, apricot, marzipan, dried mint and natural rubber. The wine leaves the palate very clean, yet its sweet flavors last a long, long time.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a bold, modern wine that confidently presents savory notes of plump cherry, toasted nut and mineral shadings that are well balanced and flawlessly integrated. Nor is the wine shy in the mouth, where it boasts black fruit flavors and a firm, tight composition. Aged in new oak for 18 months.

This full-throttle wine needs some time to settle down, for it is not a soft, supple easy-drinking Merlot. It’s a big, richly extracted wine loaded with ripe black cherries, vanilla and toast, joined by a healthy dollop of tannins on the finish. Will be released this fall, but cellar it 5–10 years for it to reach its full potential. Cellar Selection.

This is the first vintage of this wine that will be available in the United States and it makes a positive first impression. It’s a delicious blend of spice, floral notes and strawberries that finishes with soft, caressing tannins.

Campo ai Sassi is a lush and ripe Rosso with a point of cherry liqueur that appears alongside blueberry, spice, leather and tobacco. The wine is fresh, compact and would pair with succulent cuts of red meat.

Mostly Sangiovese, with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon, this “mini” Tuscan blends fruit from Chianti and Scansano in a spicy, lightweight red. Leather and chocolate accent the juicy finish. White Wine
