This Cab seems narrow and kind of mainstream at first, but really blooms after a few minutes in the glass. Has menthol and carob accents on the nose, with a sweet-plum core of flavor. Blankets the tongue with textured tannins. Imported by Southern Starz, Inc.

Straightforward but not simple, this Aussie Barbera has shadings of maple on the nose and plum-and-oak flavors on the palate. Finishes with lively acidity, but wants a little more stuffing on the palate to reach the next level. Imported by Southern Starz, Inc.

Faux-creaminess pervades nose and palate flavors, though I’m not convinced that what’s underneath is necessarily worth fighting for. The bouquet offers soil, juicy berry and watermelon aromas; tart black fruit peeks out from under the palate’s creamy cloak.

A prickly cactus of a wine that may yet blossom, given enough time. Piney, resinous notes on the nose, along with aromas reminiscent of scrambled eggs. Then the attack is sweet—almost cloying—before a strong sour-lemon flavor takes over on the finish. Bury this in your cellar for 10 years in the hopes that it will improve as dramatically as many other Hunter Valley Sémillons.

One of the better Oz rosés I’ve had lately. It’s fairly dark in color, with deep black cherry and raspberry flavors and aromas. It’s medium-full in size, with a dry, minerally feel. Perfect for those warm days that you spend on the deck grilling up a storm. Imported by Southern Starz, Inc.

A boldly flavored wine that doesn’t hold back, packed with sweet pears, powdered cinnamon and clove. Smooth and supple in the mouth and leaves tangy, lingering flavors of lime on the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
I like this wine for what it isn’t—brash or sweet. Tannins are smooth and manageable, with mushroom and stable notes accenting firm plum and cherry flavors. A little soft on the palate, with a bite of herb at the finish, but it’s nearly as enjoyable as the winery’s excellent Cabernet. Imported by Southern Starz, Inc.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Clove, peppermint and chocolate constitute the bouquet of this medium-bodied Shiraz. Plum, chocolate and spice flavors finish with slightly chalky tannins, but there’s enough fruit for balance. Drink now with rare beef, or hold 2-3 years.

Smoothly integrated aromas of blackberry, licorice and toast leave your mouth watering, but the palate can’t quite keep up, offering only simple grape and toast flavors that peter out all too quickly on the finish. A lighter Shiraz than we’re accustomed to seeing from Australia.
