Wonderfully aromatic nose, with classic aromas of black fruits laced with citrus fruit and smoked earth, spices, still very adolescent and showing only a portion of the fullness that lies just below the surface; clean and ripe in the mouth, fresh red fruits with a strongly focused tannic core, although very drinkable already; subtle shadings for a wine this young, although I suspect that only a small portion of the real flavors are available now; certainly reaffirms the vintage.

[Albright-Glaser dinner] Despite a good fill and a sound cork, this wine has not survived; the nose showed some old vine sweetness for a moment, before collapsing into a grassy, herbal dried heap; in the mouth, while again there was an echo of what was once a sweet and I suspect ripe-flavored wine, the elements are gone to be replaced with a decent Madeira perhaps; they don’t live forever.

Very rich and ripe nose, extensively perfumed and so aromatic, cassis and black fruits, tar, intense and with big, tight, extracted aromas; sweet and very ripe in the mouth on first taste, chocolate and blackberry extract; powerful, aggressive tannins emerge almost immediately on the palate, and they exert an intense drying effect on the flavors, but the wine nonetheless remains very concentrated and deep with rich fruit flavors that will not be denied; this is a typical ’03 style wine with that extra richness and intensity one does not normally associate with Bordeaux.
