Disappointing considering the price. There’s no good reason to pay $40 for a cava that’s cidery and offers hints of vinegar along the way. That said, this is not a cheaply made disaster unworthy of a rating; still, it’s austere and hints at sauerkraut.

Steps it up in the complexity department with aromas of white corn, bread and creamy citrus. The palate is integrated and smooth, while creamy orange and melon flavors take over. Finishes tropical but dry, with a good final kick. Richer than some due to 80% Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in the blend.

Rusty in color but natural, which is also this wine’s downfall. It has no dosage, so what’s left is leafy, herbal Pinot Noir aromas and flavors. It’s peachy, drying and zesty, but also saddled with tomato leaf and rhubarb. Such is the life of Brut Nature rosé.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Plum, spice and baked-fruit aromas give you some hope, but the palate on this no-dosage Pinot Noir Cava is tart to the point of being sour. Flavors of cherry skins and currants are austere, while the finish is rhubarby.
