Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Quite firm and tannic, with good acids too. Opens with strong white pepper aromas that air out to reveal luscious cassis and cherry liqueur aromas and flavors. Likely to develop further for a few years.

Someone is bound to describe this as “Burgundian” because it has a dry, mealy, nutty aroma and feels very smooth and rich. There’s also something earthy and barnyardy, in a positive way. —S.H.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
More concentrated than the winery’s regular release, this polished version gets right to the point. It shines bright with focused tropical fruit flavors underlaid with tart citric acids. The lees and oak are laid on thick, but are in balance with the fruit. It’s a fancy wine, but hard to find, with only 550 cases produced. —S.H.

A fine effort. It was so easy to get ripeness in this long, warm vintage, which shows in the sunburst of blackberry, cherry and spicy black plum flavors that mark this Cab. It’s soft and supple in the mouth, with a pleasingly sweet finish.

A very pretty dessert wine to enjoy with fruit-based pastries or fruit alone. It’s sweet in orange marmalade, vanilla and spice flavors, with a tingle of effervescence.

Dry and harsh in acidity, this Sangiovese has a silky texture, with cherry pulp and skin flavors. There are some unripe, green notes.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Hard to like, with very high, mouth-puckering acidity framing thinned-down cherry flavors. On the plus side, the wine is totally dry, with a silky texture.

A bit heavy and rustic, but good, with extracted flavors of blackberry jam, currants and spicy plum sauce. Best in the next few years.
