Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Floral, with buttercup and acacia on the nose. The mouth, however, is a bit more austere and sharp-edged. It delivers steely, bracing acids and narrow flavors of green apple, lemon and tangerine. A tightlyknit Albariño made for shellfish.

Light and limpid, with mild almond, palm butter and citrus aromas. This is a basic, clean wine that offers citrus, pineapple and mango flavors. It’s a bit sweet and monotone in its delivery, but it doesn’t offend and it goes down easy if properly chilled. Imported by Martín Códax USA.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dill and butter aromas announce aging in American oak, while the berry aromas are solid but common. This is a tightly wound wine with black cherry and olive flavors followed by length on the palate. It’s not edgy, complex or beguiling, but it is full of fruit and has good balance. Imported by Martín Códax USA.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Good and meaty stuff, with bold aromas that feature leather, berry and char. Seems saturated and ripe, and gets better the more air it sees. Flavorwise, we’re talking about plum, blackberry and a little vanilla. Complete on the finish, with all angles covered. Not complicated or complex; good value.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Starts out with gentle matchstick aromas, but with time it’s all about white fruits, green herbs and apple. The palate has a firm, standard, high-quality mouthfeel along with tart apple, white peach and pineapple flavors. The finish is pure lime and snap, while the refreshment quotient runs long and strong.

With its lovely nose of green apple, floral scents and white peach, its bright feel, and citrus-chalky flavors, what more could you ask for with a plate of oysters or a beautiful piece of sole or turbot? Very refreshing, and at an easy price, too. Best Buy.

Another unusual offering from this producer, an oak-aged Albariño, named after an instrument played by medieval pilgrims. Toasty oak and apple aromas, full apple-earth flavors, and a dry, well-proportioned finish. An exotic, toasty wine for the adventurous.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Softer and rounder than the regular offering from this producer (or most Albariños), this wine seems lower in acid (it isn’t) and higher in sugar (it definitely is). Although it may appeal to a wider audience, the flavors are less well-defined and it lacks the typicity that makes the best renditions of this unique regional white so engaging.

Códax really got it good in 2007. This is one of this co-op’s best-balanced, easy-to-like bottlings we can remember. The bouquet is clean as a whistle, with pear, apple and slate. Graceful on the palate, with citrus and green-apple flavors. A little lime carves shape into the long finish. Imported by Martín Códax USA.
