Spicy and scratchy on the bouquet, with clove, leather and dried berry fruit aromas. The acidity seems a touch sharp, and thus the palate has a prickly, spiky feel along with firm flavors of red plum and cherry. Good and aggressive, but also somewhat of a burner with a scouring feel.

Heavier than in the past, with foresty aromas offset by oak-based bacon and vanilla notes. This ranks as a medium to big effort, and it comes with black cherry and dark plum flavors. But on the mid and back palate the wine falls off quickly, leaving little finish and some raisin.

Herbal and spicy, with lactic notes and ripe blueberry aromas. Quite fruity and sprawling, with big plum and berry flavors. Thick in the mouth and large on the finish, with syrup and just enough acid to keep it balanced. Imported by Southern Wine Group.

Deep mocha and coffee greet you on the nose, backed by intense fruit and lavender aromas. And in between you catch some perfume and lilac. Rich and creamy in the mouth, with a full allotment of berry fruits, including blueberry and blackberry. Finishes a bit oaky and short, but that’s a small complaint.

Very nice Malbec from vines with up to 80 years of age. The nose is briary, earthy and deep, with purity and power. And the palate is juicy, lively and packs enticing flavors of plum, blackberry, cured meat and vanilla. Warming, ripe stuff. Delicious and ready to drink.
