Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A bit sulfury at the moment, so give it some time in a decanter if opened in the next year or so. Once past that, it delivers apple, pear and orange-scented fruit in a plump, medium-weight package. Finishes long and a little soft, making it easy to drink now.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Light in weight and crisper than many 2003s, with plenty of citrusy elements to support the ripe apple and pear flavors. There’s also plenty of smoke and mineral notes to add complexity and a long finish that folds in touches of tangerine.

Unlike some 2003s, this auslese is big without being gloppy. The sweet apricot, peach and citrus flavors are balanced by adequate acidity and strong sense of minerality that really emerges on the finish. Imported by Valckenberg International, Inc.

Shows wonderfully clean, pure fruit aromas and flavors ranging from ripe peaches and pears to oranges and white grapes. Light in body, a bit sweet, but balanced by zesty acidity.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A mild disappointment, given the strong showing of so many of Von Schubert’s other bottlings, the 2003 Auslese 155 is pleasantly light-bodied and nicely balances sugar and acidity. But unless I missed it, it doesn’t show the same compelling complexity and minerality, instead relying on fruity-sweet flavors of ripe apples and pears. Hold 5–10 years, hoping for more detail to emerge with time.

The aromas are of dark honey—there’s almost a roasted quality to them that verges on caramel. The flavors follow in a similar vein, suggesting roasted pineapple and caramelized peach, while the mouthfeel is pleasantly rich and filling.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
There’s some mossy tones under the fresh pear fruit along with a slight spritz that keeps everything lively. Pretty lemon and grapefruit notes show through on the (slightly tart) finish. Drink now.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Heavily botrytized, this thick, unctuous wine virtually oozes with dried apricots and spiced applesauce aromas and flavors. So much going on it’s hard to adequately describe, with a long, sticky finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Befitting the historic nature of the estate, this is wonderfully structured and aristocratic auslese, featuring apple, apricot and citrus seamlessly fastened to a bedrock of firm acidity. Finishes long, with a hint of citrus rind. Should easily age 20 years or more.

A bit reticent on the nose, but hints of honeyed fruit and powdered stone emerge after some coaxing. In the mouth, the flavors explode into strident notes of green apple, honey and lime zest, carried easily by only 8% alcohol. Long, tart and refreshing on the finish; a wine that can be consumed in its exuberant youth or aged into something more refined and complex. Imported by Valckenberg International, Inc.
