Smells like sweet apple pie and wax. The palate is sticky and out of balance, with papaya, vanilla and mealy white fruit flavors. Not very fresh; seems to already be turning south.

Fiery berry aromas come across sort of rough and scratchy. The palate is softer and more creamy, with vanilla, berry and pepper flavors. Finishes toasty and peppery, albeit slightly bitter.

Port, anyone? This is a prune-filled, raisiny wine. Naturally, it lacks balance and mouthfeel, which is replaced by a grating, starchy feel. Overall it has a few redeeming qualities and an okay finish.

Volatile at first, with more than a hint of vinegar to the nose. Airing helps it along, revealing brambly fruit along with tough tannins. Smells too much like a dairy; barely worth a look.

Malbec seems like the best bet for this organic label, which has shown some shaky wines alongside this. Even this one has a mild lactic, pasty streak to the nose along with raspberry and peppery spice. Lacks the cuddle and depth of the better Argentine Malbecs.

Flat and vinegary, with mulchy aromas. An organic wine with not a lot going for it. It’s chewy, with no overt edge or balance. Imported by S&F Trading Company.

Firm and leathery smelling, with a drying, oaky nose and then lifted, sweet flavors of jammy raspberry and cassis. The fruit here is riper than many ’08 Cabs, and while it’s a bit lean in feel, it tastes good and offers ample spice for balance.

The clean look, nice bead and good mouthfeel are the saving graces here, because it smells strange, almost like steamed ballpark hot dogs, and it tastes odd and innocuous, like papaya juice. The look and feel are good but the smell and tastes are not so great.
