Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A bit dark, narrow and crusty on the nose, with oak-driven berry fruit aromas. The palate is chewy, broad and generally well balanced, with savory, semi-herbal flavors of berry and cassis. Creamy and savory on the finish, with a little more oak than the basic fruit deserves.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Quite good and above the masses when compared to the bulk of rosé wines coming from Argentina. Made from Malbec, it’s bright and floral, with a touch of citrus to the nose. Healthy, vibrant, balanced and cleansing, with flavors of berries, nectarine and pink grapefruit. Drink now.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Rubbery and smoky at first, with leather and berry fruit running secondary to the wine’s more reduced qualities. But if given ten minutes to unwind, it shows wide black-fruit flavors, creaminess and finally some barrel-based resin. Gets better the more you work with it, but will always register as “oaky.”

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Opens with standard cherry/berry aromas, although with airing cheese notes and dill enter the picture. The palate is meaty in feel, with firm, tough, slightly roasted plum and berry flavors. Finishes hot, with a bold plum and berry character.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dark, rubbery aromas include black cherry, leather and cheesy notes. The palate is fairly high in acid, producing juiciness but also tartness and a lean, sinewy body housing snappy cherry, spice and herbal flavors. Good but prickly.

Melipal Cabernet Sauvignon - 2008

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Subtle on the nose, with coffee, mocha and berry aromas. The palate is built well and stirs up nary a gripe; it’s full of cherry and cassis fruit followed by mild espresso-like bitterness on the finish. It’s firm almost to the point of narrow, but for many that structure will be appreciated.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Short on berries and jam and heavily oaked, thus fruit plays second fiddle to oak spice, spearmint and hard cinnamon on the nose. The palate is on the brambly side, while the finish is fairly long and a bit leathery. Has body and size but lacks the fine points.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Fresh on the bouquet, with spring flowers and cherry blossom. Simple melon and peach flavors are less than ideal, while the finish is soft and easy but devoid of much nuance or flavor. Clean enough; not terribly thrilling.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Rock steady from opening to close. The nose is earthy and toasty, but it’s the dark-fruit notes that score the major points. Zesty and full of ribald black cherry, raspberry and chocolate flavors. Finishes with another helping of fudge, and in the final analysis it fills the tank to the brim.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Big and earthy, with secondary aromas of pepper, chocolate and smoke supporting bold black fruit. Cassis and black cherry are the leading flavors, while the zesty yet oak-heavy finish is right on. A very good Malbec from what was an average year.
