Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
With earth, leather and a touch of cheese to the bouquet, this unheralded wine is rustic yet solid, quite the surprise and satisfying overall. The palate has dark plum, chocolate and balsamic flavors, while it finishes with straight-ahead espresso and cocoa.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A touch heavy and stalky on the nose, with similar burnt, stalky flavors and some residual sugar. Wets the whistle and gets the job done, but that’s really about all this basic Monastrell rosé has to offer.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Aromas of coffee, balsamic vinegar and cedar, but not much fruit, send this wine on its way. Flavors of plum and cherry are standard but clean, while the finish is fruity and offers hints of licorice. A touch sharp but likable.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Plump and full of plum and licorice aromas. Weighs in big and a touch sweet, with black cherry and ripe plum flavors. Very soft in the feel department, with a soft finish that’s like a cushioned fall. Healthy as a whole, with lively tannins.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A Monastrell with 10% Cabernet, and it is heavily minty and woody, with leaner than expected fruit and a whole lot of resin and vanilla setting things off. Decent structure and mouthfeel, and with plenty of oak. Not bad but nothing too exciting.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Bulky and fruity, with a medicinal note to the ripe nose. From a hot vintage, so it is jammy and sweet, with strawberry and chocolate flavors. Finishes creamy and thick, with heavy doses of vanilla. Also shows a mild cooked character.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Opens with sharp cherry, cola and mint aromas. The palate is fairly acidic and sheering, but it’s also zesty and fresh, with clean berry and mild raisin flavors. Offers reasonably good length, with an acidic choppiness balanced by good fruit flavors.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A touch minty and rustic, but with enough black cherry, marmalade and tannin to make the grade. Jammy, medium in density and solid. A stout, friendly red made for early drinking.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Smells candied as well as burnt and stemmy. The palate is adequate on the surface but hollow in the middle, with dry, herbal raspberry flavors. Tastes more stemmy and distracted the longer you play with it. Not ready for prime time.
