This turned out to be the surprise of the dinner as the entire table missed this wine and confused it with a much younger Kistler; this bottle was very young-tasting and fresh, although I have had others that were not nearly as compelling; the nose opens with green herbs, lots of spices, liquid minerals, flinty and austere; sweet fruit in the front of the mouth, but then quickly a shift to minerals and steely flavors that are elegant and reserved; lots of lemon flavors, dry citrus acidity; as the wine sat in the glass the nose became sweeter with more notes of honey and beeswax; balanced and well pitched finis. (17.5/20)

Some damaged bottles in the case that Michael Lynch provided for his holiday dinner, but the good ones were wonderful; sweet nose, spicy and loaded with green herbs, good touch of minerals, ripe fruit, nice focus with lemony notes; lots of sweet fruit in this wine, good pure lemon acidity provides a good touch of freshness; a nice balance between sweet and sour flavors; good finish; not spectacular but solid performer. (17/20)

Wonderful seductive nose that is more tropical than most of these wines, I can definitely detect peaches in the nose, lush and deep; surprisingly not as focused or as intense as the “Perrières”; there is plenty of sweet fruit here, and the wine has adequate complexity, but there is a vein of diluteness that seems not in character with the rest of the wine; it picks up strength as it sits, though, and seems to gain more grip and depth, finishing strong with intensity and lots of honeyed fruit flavors that remain in the mouth for a long time; this wine is a bit of a mystery and definitely requires one to pay attention. Very sweet and ripe nose, replete with honeyed fruit, spicy and rich aromas, cookie dough, smoke, earth; sweet and rich in the mouth; layers of ripe fruit; very powerful and intense with a grip of iron; deeply structured; intense finish that stays in the mouth for a full minute after the wine is gone; this is a superb. (19/20)

One of my personal favorites, even if it lacks the full pedigree of the grand crus; rich and ripe aromas dominated by honeyed fruit; lots of minerals and herbs, perfumed with a touch of beeswax, quite herbal with tarragon and assorted green herbs; sweet fruit in the mouth, quite ripe and advanced now; layers of flavor that keep on giving; powerful acidity at the finish for lots of grip; touch of bitter herbs at the end puts a slight dent in an otherwise polished performance for me; recognizing my prejudice, a positive rating. Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Closed nose still, seems reluctant to release its profile, quite a load of minerals here, mixing with shale and slate, herbs, and some presence of sweet fruit, but that is still suppressed; much more complete in the mouth with sweet and ripe fruit flavors in the front of the mouth; powerful acidity that is on the edge of being searing, but is just kept in check and stays balanced; quite complex and moves in layers through the mouth to reach a full and balanced finish. (18/20)

Quite different nose than the Rougeot, this wine opens with a smoky nose that is characterized more by green herbs and minerals than sweet fruit, the aromas are tight and compact, though not unpleasant or unyielding; sweet and spicy in the mouth; there is a nice mix of minerals and lemony notes at the front, with more sweetness in the mid-mouth, reverting to more lemon juice and smoke at the end; an interesting wine to say the least, and challenging, cerebral; I also sense that this wine is not ready yet, will have a lot more to offer in a few years. Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
The nose opens with a lot of spicy rich fruit that mixes in a very interesting way with a panoply of drier aromas that suggest gunpowder, steel, green herbs, and I detected a hint of chives; sweet and ripe in the mouth with layers of rich fruit, fat and succulent, but at the same time showing a lot of acidity; long finish with consistent flavors. (18/20)
