Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Sweet and honeyed nose shows a definite presence of sulfur though that did not dissipate, good shot of minerals in the nose as well with schist and mica; this is a more austere wine than either the ’92 or ’96 with strong lemon and mineral notes in the mouth; flavors of shale and slate mix with citrus fruit; dry at the end, but quite elegant and polished. (18/20)

Classic nose, at first there is the strong aroma of sour cabbage, but then the nose fills out to show aromas of smoke, minerals, and freshly-squeezed lemons with an echo of candied fruit; smooth and silky in the mouth; powerful flavors, quite forward; lemon and citrus fruit with sweet edges; fat and deep, the wine has a long full finish. (18/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Very sweet and aromatic at the opening gun with an almost candied fruit nature to the aromas, honey, sweet talc, cookie dough rounds out the nose; the first taste is quite sweet and almost candied, but then there is an entry of lemons and citrus fruit that tightens the structure of the wine significantly; lots of minerals here; this wine is not open yet and needs more time; this is a high energy wine with vibrancy; high acidity at the finish. (18.5/20)

Wonderful nose with layers of aromas, sweet fruit, peat, slate, powdered sugar, hint of honey, all in a smoky background; sweet and rich in the mouth, lots of smoky flavors with spice accents; then much sweeter with candied lemons and hints of tropical fruits; long spicy finish; quite good. (17.5/20)
