Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Bubble gum on the nose makes you wonder about carbonic maceration, but that technique wasn’t used to make this fruity, simple and generally nice little Cabernet. Don’t expect complexity from it, or much varietal character; this is your basic red wine with adequate sweetness and some chocolate.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Interesting enough on the nose, with aromas of cotton candy, charcoal, lemon peel and coffee. The palate deals the usual suspects for Cabernet: cassis, plum, tobacco and herbal accents. Competent as a whole and probably a bit above average.

Slightly weedy and green, with sour cherry and weak raspberry flavors. Finishes tight and solid, but without much flavor to back things up.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Highly aromatic, with exotic scents of lilac, honey and lychee fruit. Flavors of melon, green apple, lemon and more lychee are round and fulfilling, while the finish is forward. Shows modest power and finesse, even on a bulky frame.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Mildly raisiny on the bouquet. The palate is round and full-bodied, with blackberry and roasted plum flavors backed by smooth tannins and a chocolaty, savory finish. Heavier and warmer than some red blends, but not clumsy or overdone.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Aromas of tomato, molasses and plum jam are bulked up by oak and earth, and the end result is a bit scrambled. In the mouth, things don’t really get better; the flavors are of raspberry and sour cherry, while the finish is astringent and acidic.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Mushy and flat on the bouquet, but not oxidized. The palate is also heavy and overdone, with dull apple and oak flavors. Hints of marshmallow and caramel create a sweet finish.

Michel Torino Chardonnay - 2002

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Some barrel influence works its way onto the largely natural bouquet, while the flavors of peach, banana and melon surf a smooth, modestly deep palate. This is better than your average Argentinean Chardonnay, especially if you like some tropical warmth and weight. Drink right away to catch its vitality.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A touch of oak on this wine leads to a kiss of vanilla and wax on the nose alongside melon and peach scents. The palate is full of zing and lemon, and underneath there’s more in the way of orange marmalade. Finishes long and lemony, with some natural heat.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Smooth and consistent Malbec from Cafayate is what Michel Torino is all about. Don David is a higher-aiming effort, and while it shows a touch of northern Argentina’s herbal, sun-affected characteristics, it’s also a well-balanced, formulaic Malbec that hits all the markers: good color, nice body, friendly tannins and plenty of oak.
