Viognier’s fruity, floral aspects are toned down with an herbal, earthy note. There’s some good, firm acidity. From Madera County, in the Central Valley.

Rich and fruity in cherries, rose flower and vanilla, yet a little simple, this blush wine is dry and balanced.

Miner has struggled with this wine, which comes from the Central Valley, over the years, but with this ’09, they’ve achieved a breakthrough. That may be due to the cool weather of the vintage. The wine shows crisp, clean acidity, as well as Viognier’s tropical fruit and floral flavors.

A soft-textured, easy-drinking Syrah that one reviewer called a nice everyday, by-the-glass wine. Slightly candied cherry-berry fruit is accented by dried spices that seem to fade rapidly on the finish.

A wonderful wine, delicious and satisfying, and another great example of the ’07 vintage in Napa. Made of the five classic Bordeaux varieties, it’s full-bodied, dry and richly tannic. The flavors are enormously complex, suggesting blackberries, cassis, olive tapenade and cedar, with a long, sweet finish. Already throwing some sediment, it should age well for the next ten years.

Smells a little herbal-weedy, tastes a little semisweet and soft, with raisiny blackberry and cherry flavors. Ready now.

The opening scent of funky, sweaty leather is not promising, and indeed, it tastes overly soft and muted. You can sense some good fruit in there, but it’s tamped down. The tannins stick out, making the wine awkward and common.

A disappointment from a good winery. The wine is soft and cough-medicinal sweet, a rustic creation despite coming from Napa vineyards.

Great Merlot, one that rises above the ordinary to achieve real distinction. Has aromas and flavors of blackberry, cassis, plum, chocolate, coffee, violets and smoky oak, and drinks dry and smooth. The tannins are wonderfully thick, soft and complex, and the finish impresses with its intensity. So rich, it’s almost its own food group.

Bright raspberry flavors lead the way here in this tangy, crisp rosé. It finishes moderately with a citrus-like flair and serves up enough intensity to pair well with an array of dishes from lobster to pasta to burgers on the grill.
