Pretty honest on the nose, where it’s mostly melony, peachy fruit and no faux oak. The palate is on the sharp side, with blazing acidity and not much body to go with citrus and apple flavors. Hits you with a lot of juiciness and aggression but doesn’t bring a lot of mouthfeel and complexity.

Looking for a juggernaut red that cries out for steak? Give this lush, stylish, nearly flawless Carmenère a shot and you won’t be disappointed. The nose opens with toast, mineral, herbs, olive and berry fruit, and the palate is more of the same. In terms of feel, it’s smooth and elegant, yet ripe and forceful. Finishes crusty and long. A winner from a winery that up until now hasn’t shown much.

Stout on the nose, big in color and lively as they come. After early aromas of wet cement and moss give way to bold fruit, the wine unfolds to display flavors of cassis, cherry and plum. There’s clarity and purpose here, with full-bore tannins and rock-solid structure. Maybe not the most complex wine you’ll ever try, but definitely a good example of Chilean Cabernet.

Leather and animal notes on the nose are backed by sweet aromas of hay and carob, while the palate feels and tastes extremely creamy and milky, with raspberry, malt and vanilla. Not a lot of fruit-forwardness or structure here; it’s mostly just sweet and lactic.

Mildly herbal black-fruit aromas carry notes of tea and bell pepper, but it’s not decidedly vegetal. The palate is full but carries some acidic snap, and the flavors of blackberry, black cherry, chocolate and Chinese plum sauce are good. Finishes with an espresso coffee-bitter bite and some woodiness.

Toasty, floral, big and full, with dark-cherry aromas, herbal notes and a touch of astingency. The palate is bold and firm, while the flavors of black cherry, black currant, cocoa and tea are likable and bring only a moderate amount of herbal character. Finishes smooth, rich and chocolaty.

A bit hot and crusty on the nose, with black fruit and herbal notes of olive and bramble. The palate is full but hard as nails, with a tannic bite that is wicked like a shark. Flavors are full and drying due to the tannins, with herbal accents. Finishing flavors of coffee and spice cement its dark, muscular status.

A little sharp smelling, with earth, leafiness and rubbery aromas. In the mouth, it’s round and fairly balanced, with juicy acidity and herbal-olive flavors along with blackberry. Dark and herbal on the finish.

Round, ripe and pure, with olive, blackberry and a dusting of herbs. For the money this is a satisfying Cabernet with a firm but solid mouthfeel and flavors of cola, berry syrup and cassis. Creamy and semisweet on the finish, but not cloying or candied. Well made and a good value.

A very pleasant, well-made SB with green melon, green apple, bell pepper and minerality on the bouquet. This wine captures the essence of Casablanca via citrus, apple, grass and minerally flavors that dance on a crisp bed of fine acidity. Long and uncompromised on the finish.
