With a tight flow of bubbles and toasty Golden Delicious aromas, it’s another high-quality sparkler from this consistent producer. The tart citrus flavors and crisp acidity are clean and fresh now, but will also age well.

Considering how recent the vintage, this tastes surprisingly mature. The fruit has long gone, replaced by broader almond, spice and toast flavors. The wine is round, full in the mouth, offering a rich experience but without great complexity. Drink now.

Moët & Chandon Champagne Blend - 2003

Moët’s vintage, from the hot, low-yielding 2003 vintage, has an unusually high percentage of Pinot Meunier (43%), suggesting there is a distinct character to the year. It’s certainly powerful and intense, soft initially, hinting at toast and yeast, the fruit almost sweet, even though the wine is a brut style. It is the rich strawberry flavor that’s most surprising on a wine that really has integrated impressively.

Probably the best-selling Champagne brand in the world, with a production of over 30 million bottles a year, Moët’s quality is consistent. It has a ripeness and richness, and in this bottle, some bottle age. This bottling is not hugely fruity, but it has more to offer than just fruit. Imported by Moët Hennessy USA.

Salmon-pink colors set this scintillating wine off to a good start. This is round, soft, with seductive, rich raspberry flavors that float off the tongue. It is a great apéritif wine, demanding to be drunk now.

Impérial, the best-selling Champagne brand in the world, is now the nonvintage Moët brand in the United States, replacing White Star. However, the American blend is sweeter than Impérial elsewhere, and similar to White Star, emphasizing fruitiness, ripe pear and creamy apple flavors and a soft, easy finish.

This is a classic Dom Pérignon vintage. It’s big and fruity initially, a mouthful of ripeness. Then the texture and structure of this dense wine come through. It’s as much wine as Champagne, rich, the apple and fresh pear flavors vying with yeasty and a tense crispness. Worth aging, it will be even better in 3–4 years.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
One of a series of limited releases of older vintages of Dom Pérignon, this wine is showing the mature richness of the vintage and of the Dom Pérignon style. It has toast, yeast, roasted almonds, a powerhouse of ripe fruits and a smooth, creamy aftertaste. Let this wine breathe before drinking, it will be worth it.

Somewhat orangey citrus notes shown throughout in this popular, medium-weight, balanced mainstay. Good bead and decent texture mark the palate. Flavorful, with a core of ripe apple flavor and orange accents that put it towards the sweet end of the Brut range.
