Firm and hard in tannins, soft in acids, but very lush in flavor, this blend of the two Cabernets plus Syrah has a rustic mouthfeel. The flavors are of blackberry jam, mushu plum sauce, mocha and spices.

Made in a cool part of Napa Valley in a cool vintage, this Syrah is very dry and tough in youthful tannins. It’s too astringent to offer much pleasure now, but has a great heart of ripe blackberry, dark chocolate, leather, tobacco, anise and pepper flavor that should sweeten and emerge as the wine ages. Try holding until after 2009.

Marked by youthful tannins and a fruity-oaky combination that needs time to knit together, this Cab is worth a few years in the cellar. Made from St. Helena and Yountville grapes, with a splash of Cabernet Franc, it’s lush in black and red currants, cherries, milk chocolate and cedar flavors, and finishes dry and long.
