Bright gold, with heavy popcorn and burnt tire aromas. The palate is all lemon, while the finish is downright sour. Not a stellar offering for Champagne.

Bread dough and yeast aromas but little fruit comprise the nose, while the palate, which is fairly bland at first, picks up speed later on to display some tangy citrus. The finish is lengthy, and it’s here that you get some berry fruit, citrus rind and toast.

Butterscotch, vanilla and popcorn on the nose, which is followed by some mute green apple and a sharp, fairly weak finish. The color is overtly gold and there just isn’t much character or pleasantness.

The nose is a wild and wooly mix of popcorn, hay and cured meat. Apple and some fast-fading citrus make up the flavor profile, while it finishes dull. Fairly forceful with a relentless attack in terms of bubbles and acidity.

Very fragrant, this floral bottling shows bright green herb and lime aromas and flavors. Good acidity and a brisk mouthfeel give it a lively, refreshing character. Finishes with moderate length, more tangy flavors.

There’s a distinct and unmistakable scent of rotten eggs in this wine, which usually indicates excessive amounts of sulfur were used during bottling. Apart from that we have a rough and tumble, rustic style with big fruit and a yeasty, chewy finish.

Crisp and clean, with lemon-lime fruit, a bit of stone and just a hint of licorice. It’s simple and straightforward, though it lacks complexity and elegance. It falls off and gets a bit hard and tough in the finish.

A pretty, salmon-colored wine, it starts off with scents of strawberry, hay and earth, with just a whiff of cinnamon spice as well. There’s a good focus to the mid-palate, with rich cherry flavors mingled with tobacco (!) and spice. Surprising length and concentration follow through into an unmistakable cherry tobacco flavor in the finish. Distinctive and good.

This is a special “Celebration 2000” bottling from this small family-run estate. The nose shows citrus and stone, with a bitter anise streak. Unfortunately, the bitterness carries through on the palate, with a rubbery quality in the finish.

The pretty salmon-pink color of this sparkler perfectly presages the strawberry fruit on the nose and in the mouth. Bits of leather and toast add a dose of complexity, but the wine turns very tart on the finish, verging on sour.
