Smoke, coffee, leather, tobacco, spice, dried prune and currant berry characterize a modern, nicely aged wine with deep complexity and depth. It’s also a distinctive wine with noticeable sweetness, firm tannins and excellent length. It’s ready to drink now and would make a fine companion to any red meat dish.

This 2003 Riserva emphasizes oak-related aromas of black pepper, spice and cedar thanks to 36 months of French barrique. It has an inherently nervous quality, which will no doubt unwind with a few more years of cellar aging.

This red blended wine from northern Italy is packed tight with aromas of ripe red cherry and oak. In fact, the wood element imparts a complex bouquet with vanilla, spice, cedar and smoke components. The wine is rich and very velvety on the close.

Pretty and balanced fruit nuances speak volumes about the quality of this vintage. Montezovo’s 2004 Amarone shows an excellent exchange between its cherry, spice and black mineral characteristics.

This is a thick and opulent ripasso with inky concentration and intense aromas of dark fruit, blackberry, freshly milled pepper, chocolate and espresso. The mouthfeel is generous and round and this wine would pair beautifully with spicy pork ribs. Imported by Eurobiz Inc.

Here’s an inky, concentrated ripasso with opulent notes of mature berry, strawberry and Indian spice. The wine delivers a powerful punch and tastes exceedingly thick and syrupy on the palate, although all that richness seems to finish rather quickly. Imported by Emilia Imports.
