Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Slightly pickled on the nose and palate, with little acidity and kick. Flavors of apple, white raisin and cabbage carry a vanilla accent, and the finish is full, melony, sweet and soft. Generic, without much vitality.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Another subpar Chardonnay from this winery. It smells like rubber bands and bacon, while the palate is heavy and tastes of hickory, sweet apple and sugar. Recent vintages of this wine have been weak.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Forward and ripe, with olive, rubber and tar on the dark nose. Black fruit and tannin make for a rather normal, straightforward palate. Which doesn’t mean there isn’t tasty fruit, spice, power and some chocolate on the finish. A good but simple Chilean Carmenère. Imported by Palm Bay Imports.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Well proportioned and solid, with pure cherry and berry characterisitcs alongside notes of tobacco and sugar beet. A bit tannic and firm, but not overly so; the finish offers mocha and plenty of berry extract. Imported by Palm Bay Imports.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Sweet and smoky on the nose, with prune, hickory and spice aromas that come together well. The palate on this four-grape blend is saturated and meaty, while the flavors of blackberry, coffee and dark plum are lush and finish with toast and spice. Always one of Chile’s best values; an overperformer year after year.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Earth and bacon aromas meld into darker and fuller berry notes, while the medium-bodied palate shows solid but generic strawberry and raspberry flavors. There’s nothing unusual or wrong with this wine; it’s ripe, moderately textured and even shows some light milk chocolate throughout.

MontGras Cabernet Sauvignon-Syrah - 2006

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Not a winner by any stretch. This Cabernet has thick prune and asphalt aromas, and in the mouth it’s heavy and sticky. In terms of flavors, the wine seems overly mushy, herbal and dull. Seems like the grapes were too ripe.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Warm and toasty, with heavy aromas of vanilla and nuts along with a soft, creamy, low-acid palate to match. The wine pours on the banana, oak and vanilla flavors before turning flat on the back end. Ripe and friendly but not much power.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dark and molten smelling, with herb aromas, compost, tobacco and all that is Carmenère. The palate is full and a bit tannic, with narrowing acidity framing plum, berry and roasted flavors. A rubbery, herbal finish gives this wine bounce out the door.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Heat, spice, oregano and earthy black fruit aromas are granular and raisiny. The palate is thick like berry syrup, with creamy, sweet, gummy flavors that suggest blackberry candy and molasses. Roasted and herbal; strange on the finish.
