Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Very dry, very tannic, not offering much on its own now, but there’s a muscle of black cherry fruit that a a long-cooked pork or beef stew could release. Might also age, if you feel like rolling the dice.

I don’t know what California Teroldego is supposed to be, but this one is dark, full-bodied, dry, tannic and nicely balanced. It has cherry and blackberry flavors and could age out a bit.

Here’s a nice blush wine. It’s got a pretty salmon color and intense flavors of raspberries and cherries, and is dry. For something offbeat, try with sushi.

A tartly acidic, jammy wine. Shows Zin-like flavors of raspberries, cherries and black pepper, with a sweet coat of sandalwood.

Pretty dark for a rosé, and heavy in the mouth, with the density almost of a red wine. Shows soft cherry and spice flavors.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This Gewürztraminer-like wine is very acidic, with a prickly mouthfeel, but that’s just fine given the right foods, like sausages or a rich paté. The spicy, peach and fig flavors could be more concentrated, though.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
So soft and ripe; tastes as sweet as a raspberry tart, with melted milk chocolate, a splash of cassis and dusting of toasted coconut and cinnamon sugar. Tastes great, though not really a dry table wine in the classic sense. Syrah and Mourvèdre.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Strongly flavored and rustic in the mouth, with harsh, not quite ripe tannins framing jammy flavors of cherries, coffee and spice. This tough wine needs rich, oily meats and cheeses to balance it.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Very rich and ripe, a big, somewhat rustic wine that explodes in the mouth with the flavors of cherries, red currants, cocoa and sandalwood. The texture is silky, the finish dry. Drink this charming wine with rich beef dishes.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Crisp and fruity, this has fig, citrus, apricot and honeysuckle flavors. It seems sweeter than in the past, with a sugary finish, but the acidity helps a great deal to balance that out.
