“Swan Song” indicates that this is the last vintage of Cabernet to be produced from this vineyard block. So enjoy it while it’s here: There’s plenty of dry black cherry, licorice, cola and smoked meat, and dusty tannins with nice grip close the show. Our critique is that this is an excellent finalé.

Bright and fruity, with pretty cherry and raspberry notes. There’s also a certain leafy complexity, with hints of smoke and coffee on the finish. Good wine. Good price.

There’s nothing subtle about this fruit-driven wine, with its turbocharged flavors of wild berries and stone fruits. But 60-year-old vines give complexity and finesse over and above mere power, and discreet winemaking lets the fruit express itself. —S.H.

This new Bordeaux-style blend from Murphy-Goode is classic Alexander Valley, with its bright, chewy red stone-fruit flavors and tannins that are so soft, they just melt in your mouth. Fortunately, the acidity is sufficient to provide balance. This lip-smacking blend consists of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot.

Enjoy this brawny wine with a nice steak to soften it. It’s a bit tannic, but rich in blackberry, plum and oak flavors, and thoroughly dry.

A wonderful Zin that combines lushly ripe fruit with a smooth, velvety mouth feel. Blackberries, cherries, spicy blueberries and cocoa flavors drink sweet in fruity essence, yet the wine is dry. Has the balance and elegance of a fine Cabernet, with Zin’s distinct personality.

Not particularly complex, but does a nice job with its cola, cherry, spice and vanilla flavors that drink soft and crisp. It’s an easy Pinot that will be good with a wide range of food.
