Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A lovely, nuanced nose of oriental spices, jasmine and lilacs opens this seductive wine. Dark plum-berry fruit, leather and coffee flavors and a supple, balanced feel add to its appeal. Soft and low in acidity to one taster, but to most it was simply succulent. The subtle, chocolate-tinged finish of fine-grained tannins is long and sensuous. Drink now–2007.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This Merlot-based blend of Bordeaux varieties is pretty good, with minor drawbacks including excessive softness and an overripe edge to the cherries and mocha. It’s elegant and clean. Drink now.

Balance is the key here. Acids and tannins get equal billing with fruit, but there’s no shortage of blackberries and cassis, not to mention oak. The result is polished and elegant, a gorgeous food wine.

Deliciously complex, and made solidly in the soft, ripe modern style. It’s the kind of Bordeaux blend that immediately dazzles, with its wealth of cherries, blackberries, tobacco, carob and peppery spice. Seems too soft for aging, so drink now.

I wish there were more fruity concentration here, because the individual parts are quite good. There’s beautifully ripe, sweet tannins, fine acidity, polished smoky oak, and pretty cherry, plum and violet flavors that could use a boost in the middle palate through the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Soft, slightly hot and peppery in alcohol, but very dry, this Merlot shows intense flavors of cherry marmalade, blackberry essence, dark chocolate and cedar. It’s a rich wine to drink with grilled steak. The tannins will balance out the meaty richness.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A beautiful Cabernet, dry, smoothly tannic and impressive for its volume of flavor. Shows a complex range of blackberries, black currants, minerals and oak, with a long, spicy finish. Elegant and powerful at the same time, it should develop in the bottle over the next decade.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Rather rough-hewn at the age of four-plus years, with charred, vanilla-scented oak dominating the fruit. Below that is a sea of blackberries, cherries and currants. The tannins are tough and sharp. Not showing particularly well now, and could gain in the bottle. May be better after 2011.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This Cabernet Sauvignon-based Bordeaux blend is very rich and elaborate, a major league hitter for its spectacular fruit and tannins. The flavors are deep and concentrated, suggesting perfectly ripened blackberries, cassis and milk chocolate, with a minerality that must come from the soil. It’s also very soft, in the modern style.
