Intense and focused, this good value Coonawarra opens with notes of leather and polished wood overlaid with red-berry fruit. Tannins are smooth, but there’s plenty of lip-smacking acidity to keep the cherry cordial and plum fruit flavors lively. Drink now. Imported by Freixenet USA.

A mineral-propelled style, with scents of wet stones couched in a bed of quince paste and brioche toast. This is bone-dry and elegant, with a fleeting finish redolent of brown sugar. Try with a raw shellfish platter. Drink now.

Produced in association with Katnook Estate, this is an easy-drinking Cabernet with substantial oak influence. The cranberry and currant fruit is rather herbal and even peppery, but it’s cushioned by cedar and vanilla, turning silky-textured on the finish.

A stronger effort than the golfer’s white wine, this Shiraz slips down as easily as an uphill 10-foot putt. Subtle vanilla and cedar shadings frame dried cherries and plums, while the mouthful is smooth, with a silky touch to the finish. Drink now.

This vinous effort ranks on a par with golfer namesake Nick's recent results, which is to say, acceptable. Grassy, green bean aromas and flavors are weighty and rich enough, but lack fruit and energy.

Are golfer-inspired wines the next big thing? First came Greg Norman, then Ernie Els, now there’s Nick Faldo. Made by Katnook Estate, this is a dark, plushly textured wine that’s immediately accessible. Cassis and plum fruit is framed by dark accents of coffee and cola, picking up hints of mint on the finish. Imported by Freixenet USA.
