An excellent Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet, Merlot and Cab Franc that sings a pretty tune. Concentrated but pleasantly fruity, with cherry, raspberry and chocolate aromas and flavors. A long, developed finish with a core of spice and smoke cements this wine’s position as a winner and a fine bargain. From a 10,000-case, family-owned Maipo operation that’s worth watching.

This winery does its best with Bordeaux-style blends, which in fact are the pride of Maipo and what brings people back to Chile. This wine offers some traditional game and leather on the nose and then plum and berry flavors on the palate. Spice, toast and vanilla all join nicely on the finish. Hold until 2007. A little murky and rubbery, but not so much so that the wine completely suffers. It does have solid dark-fruit flavors and the mouthfeel is stout and sturdy, with proper tannins. Common stuff; no drama. Pretty good but nothing more.

Rusty in color and a bit stewy, but sill quite enjoyable and well made. Licorice, earth and molasses aromas control the mature nose, while cinnamon spices up the cherry and boysenberry palate. A touch heavy and syrupy, but likable for its rustic, dark sweetness. The mix is 80/20 in favor of Merlot.

Light berry aromas feature herb and leather accents. Basic raspberry and cherry fruit hold down the core, while green-pepper notes float about the edges. Imported by American Wine Distributors.
