To call this Chard “rustic” is no put-down, as it affords some good Chardonnay pleasure at agood price. It’s soft in acids, with a thick, creamy mouthfeel and ripe flavors of peach custard and guava.

The 2003 version wowed our tasting panel last year, and this edition is a worthy follow-up, featuring a lovely nose of raspberry and stone fruits. Creamy and smooth in the mouth, with red berry and vanilla flavors, it’s not all that complex, but satisfying nonetheless.

Rustic and likeable, an easy wine to wash down burgers or simple Italian. Has loads of cherries, blueberries, boysenberries, loganberries and plums, with a dusting of clove and pepper. But for all that fruit, it’s totally dry.

On the sweet side, like an easy German wine, with apple, honeysuckle, peach, spice and vanilla flavors balanced by refreshing acidity.

This vineyard in the southern Salinas Valley has been getting really interesting in recent years. This is the first Bernabe Pinot Noir that’s captured my attention. It’s dry and nicely varietal, scoring well on the deliciousness scale.

Though an herbal note shows on both the nose and the finish, this Shiraz is still very good. It is fairly full and creamy in the mouth, with black cherry and vanilla flavors, and a briary element that adds complexity—and it smells just as it yummy as it tastes.
