Novus’ basic Cab is probably a better wine for the money. This one seems to want to justify its reserve status by offering more oak. But that oak carries that creamy vanilla and carob flavor, making the wine sticky. And maybe the raw material is a bit overripe as well.

Good wine, especially if you like some new oak that brings a lot of cream, vanilla and chocolate to the game. Along the way there’s plenty of boysenberry, blueberry and other sweet dark-fruit flavors. A winner that should meet the expectations of many.

Good out of the blocks, with full and creamy berry aromas. The palate doesn’t exactly follow that lead as it shows slightly tart red cherry and cranberry flavors. And by the finish there’s even a lemony tingle. Best if you like a juicy style.

Damp earth and a leafy accent render the nose less than fruity, while the mouth is round and grabby, with basic Cabernet flavors and hard tannins. Short on the finish.

Starts out reserved then comes on strong. Aromas of bright red fruits and leather are more austere than lush, and the palate delivers raspberry, cherry and plum in balanced fashion. Light oak creates a chocolate sensation on the finish. Structured nicely. Imported by South Valley Wines.

Simple but nice in its class. The nose offers bulky but clean fruit and a touch of saddle, while the palate is ample, fruity and round. It flairs out on the finish but keeps rolling in the right direction. Good for the price.

Standard fare, but nice. The nose offers some burnt sugar in addition to black fruit, while the palate is full of plum, cherry and spice. Chocolate and vanilla are detectable on the medium-length finish, while the feel and balance are proper.

Gold in color and on the dry, waxy side. Shows mineral and dried fruits on the nose, with heavy pear and apple bulking up the palate. Finishes short, with some pithy bitterness. But good overall, with a roundness that’s appealing. Imported by South Valley Wines.

Good but sort of generic. The nose exudes strawberry and milk chocolate, and the palate features blueberry fruit and some citrus-like acidity. The mouthfeel is a bit raw and tangy, but overall it is clean and presents itself well.

Canned pear aromas carry the nose toward a dead-weight palate that shows touches of passion fruit and melon but no clarity or purpose. No need to bother with this.
