Not quite in the league as the winery’s more expensive Syrahs, but at about half the price, it’s a comparative bargain. With a rich, velvety texture and smooth, ripe tannins, the wine features oak-influenced flavors of blackberries, cherries raspberries and milk chocolate.

Beautiful, irresistable Syrah, lush and sweet in fruit and oak. Soft and velvety, it offers layers of puréed raspberries, cherries, blackberries, blueberries and chocolate, with a rich edge of toasted marshmallow, gingerbread and butterscotch. Yet it’s dry, with modest alcohol.

Dark and racy, with a Northern Rhône-style aroma of black pepper, cedar and black currants, but there’s nothing Rhône-like about the flavor. It’s distinctly California, with soft, sweetly ripe tannins bursting with blackberry jam, black currants, anise, vanilla and sweet oak flavors. The wine is fully dry. Absolutely first-rate Syrah.

Made in the popular style, with loads of sweet, smoky oak that dominate everything. Shows buttered toast and vanilla flavors plastered over the perfectly pleasant pineapples, lemons and minerals.

Too oaky, with toothpicky vanilla and caramel flavors swamping the underlying fruit. Too bad, because the basic wine is nice and crisp in pineapples.

A very fine Syrah, dry, peppery and distinguished. Really defines the cool-climate style of the variety, a full-bodied wine with blackberry, grilled meat and sweetly smoked, sandalwood flavors. The tannins are very refined. The quality of this wine far exceeds the price. A great restaurant Syrah, but production was only 398 cases.

A good, everyday Zinfandel, spicy and fruity. It has lots of raspberry and cherry jam, chocolate and pepper flavors that finish a little sweet.

Great price for a Syrah this good, from this esteemed producer. While it doesn’t have the complexity of Novy’s single-vineyard Syrahs, it’s drily elegant, with complex blackberry, cola, herb and pepper flavors that shift in the glass as the wine airs. Drink now.

Robust, full bodied and frankly delicious, this is a great value in an upscale Syrah. It’s bone dry, but exceptionally rich in blackberry and cherry-pie filling, currant, licorice, bacon, sandalwood and pepper flavors that are deep and long in the finish. Amazing how good it is for the price. A sommelier’s dream, but production was only 248 cases.

A very rich Syrah, packed with pepper, blackberries, currants, cherries, cola and licorice, and wrapped into the smoothest tannins you can imagine. Offers a lot of complexity and a beautiful, long finish.
