Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
A wonderful old wine that is not showing its age; very sweet and ripe with richly textured aromas of black cherries and black earth, mixing with hints of smoke and truffles; sweet black cherry flavors define this wine, but there is considerable depth of flavor with some complexity in the nuances of other more exotic flavors; this is surprisingly elegant for an NSG, and reflects both the provenance (from the Giroud cellars via Joe Wender) and the vintage. (18/20)

Fabulous bottle of wine, fresh and vibrant, pepper and licorice, green herbs, fresh fruit, lots of perfumed notes that bring forth lilacs and lily of the valley scents; sweet and fresh in the mouth, this wine could have been bottled last year; focused fruit flavors that have plenty of cherry flavors, strawberries and raspberries; plenty of dry tannins in the body of this wine, but it is balanced and not overbearing; this is a wine that is well above its class. Ripe nose with lots of black and red cherry aromas, earthen, a bit damp and barnyardy but appealing and almost heady; ripe fruit, lots of chewy tannins, wooden, somewhat coarse but good overall; medium finish with nice flavors. (16.5/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Smoky nose with sweet ripe fruit and lots of black pepper, ripe black cherry aromas; ripe fruit, very young with lots of ripe tannins that are not yet integrated, but seem nicely balanced; fullish and quite complete as a wine, even at this young stage; good fruit with a meaty character and with lots of earth tones; not complex and a bit on the light side, but very good overall. (16.5/20)
