Very dark and oaky, with lemon, bacon, charcoal and high-toned black fruit aromas. The palate is rich and warm, almost heavy, with intense blackberry, chocolate and figgy flavors. Shows very nice texture and size but also tips toward molten ripeness and heavy sweetness. Drink soon.

Attractive background aromas like nutmeg and licorice are taken down a notch by front-running bramble and pickled notes, while the palate is hard, tannic and spunky as it delivers lively cherry, raspberry and chocolate flavors. A good wine with RDD pedigree, but also sort of grabby and rough, with coffee and pepper on the finish.

Dark as night, with raisin, licorice and char to the nose. Saturated and super-ripe on the palate, with chunky, intense flavors of baked berry and raisin. Almost too ripe but still good for near-term drinking due to its lush character and sweet, black fruit flavors.

Sweet aromas of black raisin and licorice are a good indicator of what’s to come. This is one thick, jammy, softer-bodied wine that’s ready to drink now. Flavors of saturated blackberry, mocha and black pepper are attractive, and the finish ends with molasses sweetness and espresso bitterness.

An immense, heavily concentrated and sweet wine with aromas of bacon, wood smoke, citrus peel and jammy berry. The palate is rich and unctuous, so much so that it might qualify as syrupy in some circles. The flavors run toward roasted berries, fig paste and chocolate, and all totaled it’s bold but a little overripe. Drink now.

Bring on the funk, at least at first. This new-to-America wine gets out of the gate with wild leather, stable and bramble aromas, and there’s always an aggressive, untamed quality to it. But with air it settles, and eventually true Tempranillo flavors emerge. More challenging than it should be.

Floral, fresh and just big enough to make it worth a go. There's a bit of everything to this nice-priced Cab, including leafiness, red fruit, toast, chocolate and cassis. There's also a bit of heat and burn to the finish, but with food that won't be noticeable.

Starts with dark, statuesque aromas led by mineral, leather and wood smoke. A powerful, intense wine with clean, rich flavors of black plum, chocolate and raisin. It’s a touch on the sweet and chewy side, with some tannic bite and heat, but overall it’s rock-solid and very nice. Drink now–2013.

Twenty months in oak has created coconut aromas to go with the ripe, sappy boysenberry scents that are draped on this studly, full-force RDD. The palate is a powder keg of massive blackberry, boysenberry and chocolate flavors, and the finish is like a retaining wall that keeps everything focused on the impressive midpalate. Floral, oily aromas are offset by the scents of lychee and lime. The palate is tropical and tasty, with peach, lychee and persistent freshness. It’s getting a little heavy and lazy at this point in its development, but it’s an honest reflection of northern Argentinean Torrontés.
