This Zinfandel from the Gnarled Vine line of Oak Ridge, was powerful with lots of raspberry, cassis, and sour cherries. Definitely a full-bodied wine and tannic. It took some air time to calm down, but it was a welcome addition to pizza, and our guests seem to like it as well. Recommended for nothing more than to pair with BBQ, pizza, and burgers. $8

Gnarled Vine, as Oak Ridge Winery calls it, is a simple, but delicious Cab from Lodi. Lots of plum and currant with toasty oak makes this a pure pleasure on its own... after an hour of breathing. Smoked a cigar that had a taste of vanilla, which paired well with the wine's finish. Not terribly complex, but quaffable. $10
